Worry Dolls

Global Crafts

Worry Dolls have their origins in Guatemala, where the traditional handicraft production has been passed from one Mayan generation to the next. Legend has it that by telling your dolls the matters that worry you (one worry for each doll), tuck them under your pillow, and go to sleep, you will release those worries.

These sweet, little worry dolls are crafted by the hands of skilled Mayan artisans in Guatemala.  The materials used are linked to the ancient history, rich culture, and tradition of the Maya civilization. The natural dyes are procured from nature: red dyes from cochineal insects, purple dyes from marine mollusks, and blue dyes from indigo plants. The process of dyeing each thread is time consuming and a labor of love.

Women artisans in the native Highland Villages of Guatemala are empowered through the work that provides them with means to raise their families. The work provided from this Faithbox order creates a dignified approach to reducing poverty.

For over 20 years, Global Crafts has worked with marginalized artisan groups in 8 different countries with a mission to create economic opportunities that empower individuals, and transform communities. Global Crafts is a member of the Fair Trade Federation and is committed to fair trade principles when working with partners.
