The wood carving process that is used to create the incense holder in this month’s box is a traditional art form in India that has been done for centuries. Most of the production process for these trays still utilizes several hand tools that were traditionally used long back. Each tray is made of Mango wood, which is a tree native to Northern India. India is known for its mangoes, and mango wood is ideal for this kind of piece due to its soft nature and beautiful grain. It allows for an amazingly natural look and ease of carving for the artisans. All the wood used for this tray is sourced either from planned deforestation or naturally dead trees.
With new international markets open to them through Matr Boomie’s fair trade partnership, artisans are gaining economic stability and future generations can enjoy a more fruitful life. The Matr Boomie artisan communities crafting these products benefit from fair living wages, long term employment, and community support programs like health care, free eyeglasses, and vocational training programs. For this specific Faithbox order, 5 artisans will be employed for 50-60 days.
Through partnerships like Faithbox, Matr Boomie is able to sponsor vocational training and health camps for these artisans and provide drastically improved working facilities and conditions.
Incense sold separately.
